Trainer Qualifications

HSE Guidance Health and safety training: Guidelines for the waste management and recycling industry states that “training should be carried out by someone with an appropriate knowledge of health and safety, who is competent to train and is familiar with the tasks to be performed. The trainer should also have some management and organisational skills to enable them to organise a training session successfully and should be familiar with the organisation’s policy and arrangements for health and safety.”  

The important point is that it is not sufficient if you use a trainer with appropriate knowledge but who has not been deemed competent to train. To provide your member of staff with a qualification to deem them to be competent to train we would propose the following options:

Planning and delivering learning sessions to groups

Train the Trainer – Planning and delivering learning sessions to groups (SQA Approved) Course aim is to train individuals in Basic Instructional Techniques so that they can plan, develop and deliver Basic Training in the workplace.  Completion of the course leads to the nationally recognised SQA Qualification F81Y 33 Planning and delivering learning sessions to groups
